Lloyds Scholars 2015 Programme

The programme offers eligible students financial support throughout university, paid internships, a business mentor and the opportunity to develop their employability skills.

ENTRY CRITERIA

  • A residual household income of under £25,000*
  • A confirmed offer from one of our participating universities which you have selected as your first choice** (University College London, University of Bath, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, The University of Edinburgh, University of Oxford, The University of Sheffield, and The University of Warwick)

Candidates must:

  • Be UK residents or EU students currently residing in the UK
  • Start the first year of their first degree in September/October 2015
  • Be on a three or four year undergraduate degree course***

The Scholarship is not suitable for people studying vocational degrees such as medicine, dentistry, architecture, physiotherapy, or veterinary sciences.

Channel 4 Apprenticeship Programme

With this apprenticeship Channel 4  will be helping apprentices gain their NVQ qualifications while working in one of their departments for 12 months. Apprentices will learn how everything works, what everyone does, and how it all fits into the bigger picture of Channel 4.

Apprentices will earn £16,000 for your hard work.

Channel 4 currently has apprenticeship opportunities in Information Systems, Finance, AT&I and Sales.

Mechanical Engineering Technician Apprentice

The scheme is a four-year training programme combining on-the-job training with academic study. In the first year, you will attend Kingston College to study towards your NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations and Level 2 in Functional and Key Skills. You will then undertake a series of 6 month placements across a selection of Imperial College’s busy workshops, gaining experience across a wide range of technical skills and challenges. In addition to the workshop rotations, you will continue to studying towards your BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering, NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Manufacturing and BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Engineering qualifications as part of a one day per week day release to Kingston College.Imperial is looking for enthusiastic individuals with an interest in mechanical engineering and self-development. Applicants should possess a minimum of Grade B or above at GCSE in Maths, English and either of Science or Design & Technology.

TK Maxx Finance Placement Programme

TJX Companies, Inc. are offering a 12-month placement.  TJX is a global retail phenomenon with over 3,200 stores in six countries and over 190,000 associates.

This Finance Placement Programme gives you real responsibility.  Applicants will be expected to work with people across the business to boost commercial success. People on the placement will also be able to gain incredible insight into retail at its most exciting.

The placement involves work in one core Finance area, which means applicants will have the chance to develop in-depth professional knowledge. The skills that are to be developed might include financial reporting, analysis and accountancy techniques. Training, both on and off the job, and practical opportunities to put your new abilities into practice are also on offer.

Person requirements

No particular degree is needed, although you should enjoy analysis – of numbers, people or scenarios.  The ability to connect with people, challenge their views and influence their decisions is also important. If you perform well you could be offered a place on the European Graduate Programme later on.

MI5 Intelligence Officer Development Programme 

Intelligence Officers play a pivotal role in running MI5 investigations. They help safeguard the country against threats to national security – including terrorism, espionage, sabotage and the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

The Intelligence Officer Development Programme is designed to help participants learn about MI5 investigations. For the first two years, officers will be deployed into posts that will develop skills with direct relevance to intelligence work.

Safeguarding the UK against threats to national security requires a variety of talented people. The Intelligence Officer Development Programme attracts graduates from a range of backgrounds and degree disciplines. To apply you will need to have or be expecting a 2.2 in any degree discipline or have relevant and permanent work experience.

Traineeships at the Council of the European Union

The General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union offers around 100 paid traineeships a year to EU nationals who have completed at least the first part of their university studies, and have obtained a degree certificate.

Traineeships are split into two different periods, each lasting five months:

  • 1 February to 30 June
  • 1 September to 31 January

Applications for the paid traineeships must be submitted using the online system between 1 June and 31 August of the year preceding the traineeship.

The application form is available in French and English. You must have a thorough knowledge of one these two languages in order to apply.

BBC Journalism Training Scheme 

The BBC Academy is offering training for individuals interested in becoming a journalist or presenter with the BBC.If you’re accepted on the programme, the training includes:

  •  A one year fixed term contract paying £20k per annum (outside London) or £24k (including London weighting). They also cover some travel and accommodation expenses.

Accenture Gap Year 13 Programme

This scheme really does give you the best of both worlds. You’ll spend eight months (September – May) gaining real-life experience within our business, and be paid a competitive pro rata salary. Which means you’ll still have the time – and money – to travel before you start university.

Do I qualify?

  • Be an  upper sixth-former (or year 13) with a genuine interest in business and technology.
  • Be predicted to get 340 or more UCAS points from your top three A-Levels (that’s AAB, not including general studies) or equivalent.
  • Have a mature and confident approach.

What is the recruitment process?

The selection process starts when you submit your application form. If successful,  Accenture will arrange a telephone interview. If your answers show them you’ll be a good fit for the Horizons Scheme, you’ll be asked to come to an assessment centre. Succeed here and you’ll be offered a place on the scheme.

Initial Entry Scheme — This scheme is here for students with A-level or equivalent qualifications, who want to start building a career straightway.  There are three main routes to follow, all of which follow a formal development programme, which will help you gain skills and quickly develop your experience. Gap Year — This programme is here for students who’ve completed A-levels (or equivalent) and want to gain work experience before they join university. The opportunities are focused around Banking services area. You’ll undertake operational banking work and experience the operational and research areas of the Bank – developing professional knowledge and personal skills that will enhance your university application.
