About Us

African & Caribbean Diversity (ACD or ACDiversity), est. 1990, is a charity focussed on improving the academic attainment, career prospects and social mobility of black students, aged 14 – 18, from London state schools. The charity offers an array of enrichment programmes, from residential summer schools at the University of Cambridge to one-to-one mentoring with working professionals to black history seminars with academics, to mention just a few. Over the last 10 years, ACD has supported over 300 students and is now developing a programme to support its alumni through their time at university and at the early stages of their careers. Long-standing donors of the charity include The Bank of England, Goldman Sachs, Slaughter and May and the University of Cambridge.

“All I can say is ACD helped build my character. Being part of the scheme is like having a second family, where Brenda, the chief executive, is your mother and the students and mentors are your brothers and sisters. Your family’s job is to be your backbone, to help you and guide you through life. This is exactly what ACD is about.”

- Aminata Vandy, ACD Student 2009

“ACD granted me access to spaces that allowed me to cultivate life-changing relationships and
develop a progressive mindset, whether this was through: role-models in alumni, empowering Black
history seminars, internship opportunities, supportive mentors, ambitious peers, residential
development programmes at universities and at the EU, motivating GCSE and A-Level results
celebrations, or insightful corporate networking events. Success became normalised and my critical
and logical thinking skills were enhanced. The exposure and knowledge gained and relationships
nurtured provided me with tailored support in my academic and working career, as well as in my
personal ambitions and passions.”
